Hello, I am Charlie Lennox.  

We at SOS believe that there has been enough TALK about tackling climate change - now it is time for ACTION:

 

1. We believe the world is sleepwalking towards environmental catastrophe.
2. An 80% reduction in emissions is required to level off the damage already done (IPCC, Lord Stern et al).
3. Attempts being made to tackle this problem, however worthy, are inadequate at best, and tokenism at worst.  (The odd electric car is not going to counterbalance a new power station being built every 4 days in China.)

 

But most people have failed to see the GREAT OPPORTUNITY that is staring us in the face:

 

Free Market Capitalism is close to collapse

 

Capitalism has swollen into a dangerous fantasy that is hopelessly broken and is being kept alive by artificial means - primarily by the extension of preposterous lines of credit and by the printing of money.  Capitalism is also the prime motor of the destruction of our planet, demanding ever-increasing levels of consumption and production. 

 

Capitalism is costing us the Earth.

 

At SOS we propose that the world embraces the end of a sick and discredited system which was a breath away from dying in September 2008.  We are quite certain it will fail again, and more catastrophically next time.  We want to see it replaced now, with a reduced form of market economics without all the speculative elements of casino capitalism that are indulged in by banks and governments. 

We want to see a world where usury and gambling are not the central elements of working life.  We want high street banks, which lend affordable amounts to individuals.  No lending to business, which will expand on the basis of profits made.  And no lending to local or national government, who will provide services purely on the basis of taxes levied.  And that is it. 

 

No more City of London, no more red braces, no more funny money. 

 

We want a world that is sustainable and pleasant to live in.

 

To this end we are marshalling forces to take coordinated ACTION.  

We are prepared to make sacrifices in order to give our children a future.   We need your input to help formulate a plan and create a consensus.   

 

We must bring capitalism down to size. 

  

We would like to think our leaders might be encouraged to embrace the next collapse of the Global Financial System.  That seems unlikely.  If they can't be persuaded, and if the collapse doesn't arrive in time, and it needs to be soon, we will precipitate the collapse by generating support for mass action. 

 

DEFAULT

 

Put simply many nation states - Greece, Ireland, Hungary, Portugal et al - are so deeply in debt that there is no prospect of them repaying what they owe for generations.  Rather than encumber their children and their children's children with that debt they much be exhorted to default.

We must refuse to pay.  Draw a line.  Give an amnesty on debt and start again without a rucksack full of rocks on our backs. 

Who loses out - A few bankers. 

Who gains - A people liberated from a lifetime of debt. 

People living simpler lives, not fuelled by credit, not buring the life out of our planet.

We at SOS are not revolutionaries, or anarchists, nor are we affiliated to any political party.  We are ordinary middle-of-the-road, middle-aged, middle-class professional people who are suddenly aware that our cosy world is about to change, whether we like it or not, and it has a better chance of turning out well if we try to take some control of the process rather than just standing by, fiddling while Rome burns.
